3 Counties Report v Folke Report

3 Counties Report 5.4.14

Our team were keen to start the Summer League this Saturday with 4BBB matchplay at Folke.  A lovely sunny day, Friday...cold and wet Saturday!  So much for the cutoffs and the start of summer: back out with the waterproofs and handwarmers.

The date was brought forward from Easter Saturday...a silly day to choose, but in the event, it proved just as difficult.  How could Angela and Dave have a family wedding,Watford be playing a crunch game and the Denneses have a trip to London?  Never mind, it gave a chance for Kev Purdy and Connie Stolworthy and Sonia and Steven Banks to get some matchplay.  Thankfully, Yeovil's matches fitted round Sam this time and he and Sandra Ford had a tight game in our first pairing, finally losing 2 and 1.  Sonia and Steve lost on the 16th  and Kev and Connie's game was down to the last putt...so close!  The final result was a loss for us to Folke, 3 and 2 and (mutter, mutter) Ray and myself couldn't pull off the Joe Harring slot.  Thanks go to Steve Cousins and Michael Scoble for their win...Steve was off to put his putter in the freezer for a spell to cool it down, and to Sean Monaghan and Sandra Basford (newly returned from her knee op...) for our other win.  Perhaps Sean's pre-round bacon and egg sandwich is the secret!  For our two wins Away I am pleased to say we gained 8 points to Folke's 11...This is an encouraging result, a vast improvement on last year, where Away at Folke we lost 4 games and halved the 5th!

Our next match is at Charminster on Saturday, 10th May.  First tee 11.00.  Sign up sheet on the noticeboard.
