3 Counties v Wincanton 21.05.16

3 Counties report Long Sutton home v Wincanton 21.5.16

When I have more than the usual difficulty in forming a team, I wonder, 'Does this mean the gods are going to make up for it and reward us with a good result?' Well, judging by this weekend's match the answer is emphatically 'No!' Our sole team winners...again...were Denise Tomblin and Richard Overson. That is not to say the rest of us did not play well, simply that, despite giving it our last ounce of effort, Wincanton came out on top. That's golf.

Thank you to Sandra Ford for abandoning her sorting out and flying to the tee in our hour of need and thank you to Mary Marshall, who gamely gave it a go. She looked very lonely in the rain in the middle of the 6th fairway, while Ray flirted with the rough on the 4th. Thank you to the whole team...Sean, Tim and Nigel, Angela and Dave...I appreciate your efforts. Thank you to John Pearson, my partner. Well done John. We won the Reserve points.

Long Sutton 3 points: Wincanton 18 - meaning we are currently bottom of the League...so the only way is UP!

Looking forwards to our next match, home v Wheathill 'A' Saturday, 4th June. First tee 1.06.

Please sign up in the corridor if you would like to be included...share our joys as well as our pain!

3 Counties report Home v Folke 7.5.16

3 Counties report Home v Folke 7.5.16

Well done team.  I was looking on building improvement into our results…we did manage our first win in the Reserve slot so I take that as the improvement!  The team had 2 wins versus Folke’s 3 so Folke did well with Away points and extra for the win…14 to our 6.  All the matches were played in good spirit.  As a certain person said on the first tee, “I enjoy my golf.  I play as much as I can.  You never know when you might wake up on the wrong side of the grass!”  He used his last shot on the 16th and sank his ball for 5 nett 4, putting us one up, ready to win on 17.  Well done John Pearson!   andwell done everyone...Thank you to Vanessa and Tim for battling to the 18th and to Angela and Dave.  So close!  Well done Nigel and Ann and Sean and Sandra for your wins.  Thank you Valerie and John Thomas for filling the last slot. Valerie had to drop to 28 hcp for the shot calculation which negated her courtesy shots.  A gutsy show.

We meet Wincanton next at home on Saturday, 21st May.  Do sign in the corridor if you would like to play.  Gill

3 Counties Report – Folke away 23.4.16

3 Counties Report – Folke away 23.4.16

The team on Saturday consisted of Carole Paterson, Tim Edwards, myself and Nigel Brighouse, Steve and Sarah Uzzell, Angela Baker and Ian Jackaman, Ann McRae and Sean Monaghan, Ray Edwards and Amie Stamp.  Thank you all for setting a new record for this season: last match 4 points, this match 8, versus Folke’s 10.  We are on the up!  We had 1 win, 2 halves and 2 losses, gaining more by playing away.

Thanks this week to Ian Jackaman for joining in.  I hope the course maintenance did not put him off playing again and thanks too to Amie Stamp who allowed us to twist her arm the night before.  She stepped into the last slot, having worked in the morning and cheerfully gave it her best.  The Folkeopposition warmed to her immediately on the first tee when she joined in the repartee, identifying her ball with “Mine has a big ‘AS(s)’ on it”…her initials being AS.  She is still 36 hcp and had to drop to 28 for the match.  Thank you to them for being encouraging and supportive all the way round.  She and Ray played for the Reserve points.   Once Folke had won the match they made Amie play off the whites (for fun).  From the white tee on the 18th she was 20 yds off the green for 3…a par 5 for men, 484 yds.  Looking good Amie!

???Sat 2 July Home v cannington A (1.00)

???Sat 3 Sept Away v Cannington A (tbc)

The more people who give our matches a go the better!  We want you to have fun.  Do sign up in the corridor.  Gill.

3 Counties V Cannington

3 Counties report – 16.4.16 – Our first Summer League match, away at Cannington – It’s not summer yet!  For half the match I was wrapped up Himalaya-style with 2 hats, 2 neck warmers, 2 underarmours,  handwarmers in both pockets and I was still cold!

This being the start of a new season, we were high on expectations.  The golf would be amazing!  I am sure some of the time it was, but sadly Cannington got the better of us. Thank you to all the team for trying so hard.  Sandra Ford and Rupert, Richard Overson and Denise Tomblin, Nigel Brighouse and Val Fraser, Sarah and Steve Uzzell, Tim and myself, Ray and Sean.  Special thanks go to Richard and Denise for stepping into the gap at the last minute and for bringing in our only points… 4 to Long Sutton and 14 to Cannington.

Our next match is Saturday, 23rd April, away at Folke.  Anyone interested in playing, please sign the sheet in the corridor or contact me on 07850595771.  Fine weather forecast!
