Club Captain's Welcome
Long Sutton Club Captain 2017 – John Blackwell
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all members and visitors to the Club.
We have just celebrated our Silver Jubilee and are going into our 26th year since opening in 1991.
Our custodians Graham and Felicity Holloway have invested extensively in the ten years they have been here on the course, on machinery and in the clubhouse.
Our Golf Professional, Andrew Hayes, is one of the best Golf Pro’s in the South West and will always help anyone with their golf problems with a smile and genuine interest. The Proshop carries a wide range of stock, but if it’s not there Andrew will always get it for you at a very competitive price.
The kitchen and bar staff are always here with a smile to serve you with menus and refreshments. Our carvery is extremely busy on Sundays and is very good value, so book in advance when booking your golf game if you wish to eat in the Dining Room afterwards.
We have over 500 adult members (ladies, men & men’s seniors) and also a junior section.
The course itself is very challenging with its water features, ditches and bunkers so course management needs to come into your game. The course off the white tees is 6352 yards long, the yellow 6124 yards and for the ladies 5496 yards off the red tees.
For every visitor you will not find a friendlier group of people and everyone is made very welcome.
We have three teams in the Avalon League, one in the Senior’s Avalon League and a team in the Three Counties League, plus the Seniors’ section and the Ladies Section play competitions and friendly matches throughout the year. The Ladies also play in a competitive league. Our Opens are always well supported.
We have a Club Night held on a Wednesday in the summer which is a nine hole competition with different formats each week which is a lot of fun and a bite to eat and drink afterwards in the club house which is very sociable.
So if you are passing, come in, have a game whether it’s one, two, three or four of you or a Society and I will do my best to meet and greet you all.
We also have a sister club, Orchardleigh Golf Club (Frome) which is less than an hour’s drive away, so come to Somerset for your golfing holiday.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon, good golfing.
John Blackwell, Long Sutton Club Captain
