Dawn to Dusk Challenge!!

Dawn to Dusk Challenge:

4.30 AM on Monday 25th June saw the start of Mark Healey’s dawn to dusk sponsored golf challenge, raising money for the Captain’s charity.  By the time dusk set much, much later in the day, Mark had completed 108 holes – an incredible achievement. And he carried all the way! He was accompanied and encouraged by a number of members during the day, including Andy Moray (who bravely started with him at 4.30 in the morning (18 holes)), Andrew Hayes (22 holes), Douglas Bartys, Simon Green (18 holes) and Adrian Nutland (12 holes), George Ceely (27 holes), Vanessa Hayes (18 holes) and Jamie Brodie (9 holes).  Thanks to all those who sponsored Mark, those who played alongside him and also to the players who kindly let him through their games during the day.

From current figures, Mark expects to raise around £700, but hopes this will go up over the next few weeks. If you would like to support Mark’s achievement but missed the sponsorship forms, donations will be gratefully received in the Pro-shop or at the bar.

Report on Shotgun Start, Bank Holiday Monday – The Dream Team does it again!

Report on Shotgun Start, Bank Holiday Monday – The Dream Team does it again!

Thank you and well played to all those who left their warm beds at 5 a.m. to wait for the 6.30 klaxon, signalling the start of the Bank Holiday Monday Texas Scramble – Muddle may have been a better word!   Many apologies to those who had to invent their route – the board still showed 16 zigzag holes open,  wheareas most of us knew we were playing a straight 18, including up the 10th, (over the high tide mark), and down the 5th.  A bird's eye view would have been hilarious, but not so funny for those involved in the Scramble!

Tommy blew the klaxon slightly later than 6.30, as not everyone's alarm had gone off as planned. How about waking at 10 past 6 and you live in Somerton?  Well-scrambled Gwen and Brian and a good job Graham's bed is near the 1st tee!  So many keys to sort out.

It wasn't the glorious dawn that I had hoped – the pink glow was from my red umbrella, not the sunrise – but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. We saw the hare race across the 6th and a sparrow hawk swooped into a tree, wings wide, right in front of us on the 15th.  These things are a privilege.

We were all more than ready for the wonderful breakfast and the results.

1st:        Well done the Dream Team – Graham (shoelaces finally tied) Holloway, Phil Ross,

            Mike Veale, Neil Hewitson.

2nd:       Sarah and Steve Uzell, Sandra Basford and Sean Monaghan – (Now thank me for        persuading you to play).

3rd:       Roy Parmiter, Geoff Monks, Chris Norton, Gavin Baker.

Thank you to Graham for allowing us to run the event and to everyone who helped make it happen.

Gill
