Cameron Barrett wins Wessex Salver

Long Sutton’s Cameron Barrett played in the Wessex Masters in June and produced one of his finest rounds of his young golfing career. He played at Bath Golf Club and got a gross 80 on a very calm and beautiful day. His steady and calm approach to the event was the paean of his success playing to his strengths and helping him to some very good scoring holes on the day and in the end he finished in the top two of the competition and lost out on the gross prize to Will Warman who is an England and Somerset county player. Cameron won the Wessex Salver for the best nett in the whole competition and myself and all the juniors are very proud of Cameron for this achievement.

Well done Cameron and we wish you well for the rest of the season and all your future achievements.

Win for LSGC Juniors Vs Wheathill GC

LSGC Juniors Vs Wheathill GC

After our first victory of the season we had our first home match of the season against a strong Wheathill side. Weather was really good and the golf course looked fantastic and this benefitted all of us which helped our team with the outcome of the result.

In our first singles match Haydn 'Legend' Gibson played a 5 handicap player and despite getting shots from his opponent he still swept away his opposite number in a fantastic match play manner of a 10 & 8 win and finishing 4 under par after 10 holes giving Long Sutton our first point of the match. The second singles match was Cameron Barrett against a 10 handicap player and despite losing the first he played brilliantly and secured a well deserved 7 & 6 victory ensuring another point for the Long Sutton team.

Our 1st 4 ball match was the pairing of Stacie Watts and Shane Crocker. Shane was making his debut for the junior team after playing so well throughout Junior Club night. Despite having to give alot of shots to the opponents they played well together and won their match 2 & 1 in a good team effort  with Shane making a birdie on the last to ensure another point for Long Sutton making it 3 - 0 with one to play. Then in our 2nd 4 ball match it was the combination of Sam Clarke and Rubin Stacey they was also giving alot of shots to the opponents but that did not faze the young pairing as they played in a great team effort getting a well deserved half in their match and giving Long Sutton the winning margin of a 3 1/2- 1/2 victory. Another great result for Long Sutton’s Junior Team.

Our next match is on the 8th July and is an Away match against Weston Super Mare GC. The team sheet is available for juniors to confirm for the next game. Well played and see you all till the next match.

Yours Sincerely

Congratulations Cameron Barrett

Congratulations Cameron Barrett

Cameron has been selected to play for Somerset U 14 against Glamorgan at The Glamorganshire Golf Club on Sunday. I am sure we all wish him well. Cameron along with Ruben Stacey has been receiving coaching from Andrew Hayes paid for by the County Union which has seen a drastic reduction in his handicap.

LSGC Juniors Vs Wells GC

LSGC Juniors Vs Wells GC

After a long wait we have had our first Junior match today, it was an away trip to Wells. Wearing our new team shirts the weather was good despite predicted heavy downpours. We have a new format for this season with 2 singles matches and 2 four ball better ball matches.

In our first singles match Haydn 'Legend' Gibson played a 20 handicapped player and despite giving alot of shots to the opponent he swept away his opposite number in a fantastic match play manner of a 6 & 5 win giving Long Sutton our first point of the season. The second singles match was Sam Agar against a 18 handicap player. He started well winning the first 2 holes then it went all wrong  and despite being 5 down with 6 to play he pulled it back but Wells held their nerve to win the game 2 &1. It was nearly a brilliant comeback from Sam  nearly getting a possible half.

In our 1st 4 ball match it was the pairing of Will Ross and Stacie Watts and having to give alot of shots to their opponents they played well together and won their match 2 & 1.  It was a good team effort and another point for Long Sutton making it 2 - 1 with one to play. Then in our 2nd 4 ball match it was the combination of Sam Clarke and Cameron Barrett.  They were also giving alot of shots but that did not faze the young pairing; they played in a great team effort romping to a brilliant 5 & 4 victory in their match and giving Long Sutton the winning margin of a 3 - 1 victory.
An important good start to the season.
Also congratulations to Will Ross and Cameron Barrett who had their club ties presented to them after the matches for playing over 10 games for Long Sutton.
Our next match is on the 16th June and is a home match against Wheathill GC so the team sheet is available for Juniors to confirm for the next game. Well played and see you all for the next match.

Yours Sincerely
