Juniors' and Parents' Away Weekend To Woodbury Park GC!!
Juniors' and Parents' Away To Woodbury Park Golf Club
Steve Stopforth, aided and abetted by Steve Dobson and Phil Ross, organised a trip to Woodbury Park G.C. on the weekend of 24th October. Steve and Susie Dobson, Phil Ross and Ray and Gill Edwards accompanied Steve, Hadyn (the Legend), Dom, (Little Nickie), Will Ross, Nathan, Will Harris and Rupert, (RP). The weather was beautiful both days and we saw the course in full autumn colour. I could so get used to refreshments half way round! Hot pasties, cakes, coffee...very welcome on a slow day.
Day 1 - Communication failure. Gill and Dom, Susie and Will R. heard “Better Ball” but not “KEEP INDIVIDUAL SCORES AS WELL”. Much head-scratching that evening!
Day 2 – Tee off wasn't until 12.20...Quit rooms by 10.00. Who didn't think that one through! But at least it meant there could be a mini pool tournament to fill in time. Ray slept through this...conserving energy for the golf.
As far as the results were concerned, mere mortals rather wished the Legend hadn't come...Nearest the Pin, Day 1 – Hadyn. Longest Drive – Hadyn. (If only that last bounce hadn't tipped Steve Stopforth's ball onto that fringe of grass. He was robbed). The Best Team was Steve Dobson, Will, Rupert and Hadyn. Best Individual, Hadyn. But he didn't win Nearest the Pin, Day 2. That was on the 18th, played across water in full view of the clubhouse – Gill Edwards was in the front team and put her ball 4 ft. from the pin (hurrah!) and remained Nearest the Pin as the Legend only managed 6ft from the pin and she beat Hadyn again because she sank her putt for a 2 spot! Gill Edwards Nearest the Pin in Two!!!
A jolly good weekend Steve and thanks for organising it. It meant I had to scramble to get back to the Club for my AGM in time but I wouldn't have missed that 18th hole for the world!
