LADIES INVITATION MIRACLE!
On Wednesday 2 May we were due to play our Ladies Invitation, but the weather had other plans. For several days the rain poured and flooded many parts of Somerset. The golf course was closed on Monday and Tuesday and did not look promising for our special event on Wednesday. We had 64 Ladies booked to play and many travelling a long distance, one as far as Switzerland!
Many alternatives were considered including a lunch and fun indoor activities, but Graham and his band of heavenly ground staff performed a miracle! From Monday evening (up to midnight) and all day Tuesday Graham was attending his pumps and his ground staff were working from 6am to 6pm to try And get some of the holes playable for our Ladies invitation. After a meeting with Graham on Tuesday lunchtime he felt that 9 holes could be playable, with more hard work and a little sunshine this progressed to 17 holes, as long as the rain stopped. By Wednesday morning all 18 were open!We had an hour's delay to allow the course a little more time to dry out. Nobody minded as it gave us the opportunity to have a chat with friends over coffee and cake. Then with the explanation of a few special local rules, courtesy of Andrew, play began.
The course was absolutely amazing with very few wet patches. The greens played beautifully, the sun eventually shone and we all had a wonderful game.
The perfect day was concluded with a fantastic cold buffet and scrumptious desserts.
