Lady Captain 2012 - 2013
I took over as Lady Captain at the end of October, 2012, and am looking forward to my second term as Lady Captain.
Long Sutton Ladies’ Section is an enthusiastic, friendly group of ladies. There is a wide range of abilities in the Section, from beginners to experienced players, most of whom enjoy entering our various competitions on Wednesday, our competition day. For the working ladies, competitions are arranged at the weekends. There are also various matches against other Sections within the club, including Juniors and Seniors, and some ladies participate in the summer Club Nights, as well as plenty of social golf.
Long Sutton Ladies compete in county competitions, with considerable success, and players have been selected for matches against other counties, at all levels, from Junior through to Senior matches. As well as county matches and league matches against other Somerset clubs, we arrange many friendly matches, both Ladies and Mixed, playing at home and away against other local clubs. These enable players at all levels to enjoy competitive golf against other players.
Our Open Competitions are well attended, both because of the quality of the course, which improves every year, but also because of the excellent catering facilities.
We raise money through various fund-raising activities during the year for the Captain’s charities. This year I have chosen the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and Ward 9 at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Our course has suffered, as have many in the South West, from the appalling weather in 2012, but, thanks to the hard work over the past few years, the course has drained amazingly well, and we have been able to continue to play through the worst of the weather. I am confident that 2013’s weather will be better, and I look forward to enjoying my golf with as many of the ladies as possible.
I wish you all happy golf for 2013.
