Lady Captain 2011 - 2012
As Lady Captain from 24 October 2011 I would like to welcome you to Long Sutton Golf Club Ladies Section.
Long Sutton is a Parkland Course with water features, maturing trees, and a few strategically placed bunkers. It has stunning views over the Somerset Levels and is brilliantly maintained by our hard working Green Staff. Last year the Course was closed for only one day!
We take great pride in being recognised as a very friendly club with a thriving and active Ladies Section, and it is a great honour for me to be elected as Lady Captain for 2011/12.
We have over 80 lady members ranging from novice golfers who have recently acquired a handicap to Silver Handicap players. Some have been members since the Club started over 20 years ago.
Wednesday is Ladies Competition Day and very well supported. From November through to March we still continue to meet and play social golf along with a monthly Winter Competition. The Ladies once again have a very busy schedule planned for this year and I look forward to the enthusiasm and commitment and the joie de vivre that I am sure they will all contribute to ensure a successful and enjoyable year.
Visiting Ladies are always welcome. After enjoying a round of golf I would encourage you to dine in our modern Clubhouse with delicious food from a varied menu. You will be made very welcome by our friendly and helpful staff. Our Opens are always very popular and many visitors return year on year.
If you feel that you need a little extra help with your technique, Andrew Hayes our wonderful golf professional is always at hand. After all, he taught me to play. What a lot of skill and patience he has!
Throughout the year the Ladies are very active with various fund raising events and manage to make a large donation to a variety of causes. My Charities this year will be Breakthrough Breast Cancer for the amazing research into Breast Cancer and a local Charity, Charlton Farm. A Children's Hospice which belongs to Children's Hospice South West.
I would like to wish the Men's, Seniors and Junior Captains good luck in the forthcoming year and look forward to working alongside them at our various social events.
To our members, may you enjoy good health and good golf. To our visitors, enjoy the beauty of our scenery, the warmth of our welcome and happy golfing.
