Long Sutton Seniors - success by the sea!
The inspired team selection of Peter Hill and team captaincy of Mick Capps lead to a very successful result in the Jurassic Challenge held at Lyme Regis Golf Club. We entered 2 X eight man teams and played in pairs against teams from 9 other West Country clubs. A shot gun start at 8:45am meant that, having enjoyed fair weather and stunning views for an enjoyable round of golf (oh those missed putts, again!) we were all back in the club house, in time for a late lunch.
Peter, who unfortunately was unable to make the rearranged competition date, had requested that we all wore jackets and club ties for the after match meal. He had suggested, slightly tongue in cheek, that they would look good in the team photo, when we received the trophy. How right he was!
There were prizes for nearest the pin, one was won my Nick Dennis, which he converted into a two spot for a further prize and another was won by Keith Lancey. In fact, when you achieve a "hole in one" you are pretty certain you will also pick up the nearest the pin and a two spot with just one magic stroke. Congratulations Keith and thanks for the glass of wine. Runners up for the best pair were LS seniors Keith and partner Phil Bowditch and the trophy for best pair was won by LS seniors Len Collin and Glyn Ottery, with Len scoring a very impressive 43 points. The overall winners of The Jurassic Challenge Trophy was the 8 man team of LS seniors lead by Mick Capps. I felt very fortunate indeed to be a member of the winning team. Well done to all 16 who took part and a special vote of thanks to Peter Hill for organising our entry.
