Long Sutton Solheim Cup
Gwen's great idea of a Long Sutton Solheim Cup has kept our competitive edge going throughout the winter and 35 ladies have taken part in the matches.
The different formats gave variety and challenge. We began in November playing foursomes, in January - greensome, February - better ball and the final round on 5 March - Singles.
Being the first Solheim Cup, Gwen and I are thrilled how smoothly it has run and how the idea has been embraced. We started quite tamely with European and USA flags on backs and bags. Soon, team colours started to appear. This progressed..... to even one of the ladies wearing of a cowboy hat!
After the final match there was a Solheim lunch with a delicious European and American themed menu. Thank you George.
The friendly banter continued throughout the lunch and the winning side, Europe (we had to let Gwen win!) were presented the trophy. A unique engraved trophy decorated with the European and American flags, skilfully made by Diana.
The lunch was extra special as Julie(pastry chef) made two scrumptious cakes to celebrate Marion's birthday.
We are all looking forward to next year's Solheim challenge.
