LONG SUTTON CLUB CAPTAIN
Welcome to Long Sutton Golf Club. When Norman asked me if I would be his vice-captain, it was with pride and honour that I did not take too long to accept. I joined the golf club soon after the course opened in September 1991, so I am not far off being a founder member!
Over the years the course has improved greatly with owners George, Mike and now Graham each adding their own ideas and it has developed into one of the best in the area. Added to this, the friendliness of the members and the welcome in the clubhouse, which provides excellent food, all add up to a wonderful experience for a golfing day out.
The Club enters three teams in the Avalon league, a team in the Three Counties league and a team in the junior league, also teams are entered in the various County knockout competitions of which the scratch team lost the final of the Pickeridge Bowl at EnmorePark to Taunton and Pickeridge only on the 2nd extra hole! Maybe a win this year.
On Wednesday evenings from April to October are Club nights where members can just turn up and play 9 holes and have fun, then socialise in the bar after. Sometimes you may win a prize!
The Club’s charity is St. Margaret’s Hospice and many thousands of pounds have been raised for this great cause. It will also be my charity for the year, with a little bit of help from wayward golfers’ shots which finish in any water hazard. This incurs a fine of 50p to the charity bottle on the bar in the clubhouse.
Finally, I would like to thank Norman again for asking me to be the Club Captain and look forward to playing with as many members, new and old, as possible during the year.
