100 Hole Charity Challenge Report with Photos
100 Hole Charity Challenge, Monday, 28th July, 2014
Raising money for our Captains' Charities
St. Margaret's Hospice, St. Mark's Hospital Research Foundation, Parkinson's UK
Thankyou to everyone who helped me achieve the 100 hole challenge – Thanks to Graham and Felicity for the use of the course and buggies, to the greenkeepers for starting the clover spraying on the other side of the course first, to the ladies and gents for accompanying me and plying me with vittles, to Caroline for her ball-out-of-the-hole retriever and to the players on the course who paid me to play through! Much appreciated. Total £140 donated on the course.
Carol, Hilary and Rupert got me going at 6 a.m. prompt off the 9th and we romped along on an empty course, playing 9, then 10-18 to make the odd 10 holes, followed by 5 complete rounds to total 100 holes! Gwen Clarke and Anne Agnew, Sally Taylor, Pat Whitehead, Kath Rushton, Caroline Lumley-Frank, John Searl and Dave Rogers all added their help at various stages during the day by buggy driving and 'walking with'. I rather took on the role of 'Where's Wally/Gilly' as the pace didn't drop and my guestimate schedule went to pot! Apologies to those who came to support me at the end, only to find it was all over...10hrs 40 mins, including one pit stop...this equates to 6 mins. 40 secs per hole. By my reckoning, adding in distances from greens to tees, I walked 21 miles plus. We checked my pace length, short, as you know, and at 22 ins. it was approx. 60,800 steps.
Getting ready. 5.45 a.m.. Thankfully, cool and dry as I had left Martock in pouring rain.
Carol, Hilary, Rupert and self, all looking remarkably alert for that unearthly hour.
The very start, off the 9th. Hard to see but am approaching the 9th!
Putting not improving.
16th on first complete round. Coming down 100th hole with those who had managed to find me
Will the last putt go in? No! I ended up with an 8!
My cards were
Holes 9 -18 (6.00 - 7.00 a.m.) 52, First round (7 - 8.50) 97,
Second Round (8.55 - 10.35) 97, Third Round (10.57 - 12.42) 96,
Fourth Round (12.50 - 2.45) 108, Fifth Round (2.50 - 4.40) 95.
Thank you everyone. With monies collected and promised to date we should raise £830 plus.
Before I get too old and further stunted I am planning to try for 100 holes on Monday, 28th July, with the proceeds being split between the three Charities being supported by Long Sutton.
Club Captain's Charity (St. Margaret's Hospice)
Seniors' Charity (St. Mark's Hospital Foundation)
Lady Captain's Charity (Parkinson's UK).
We'll see how far I get. Daylight is not a problem: it's how long will my feet last!
If anyone would like to donate for my effort, please sign the form in the Proshop.
Anyone willing to do a spell of buggy driving or 'walking with', just let me know.
