Monday 14th December and 40 Seniors gathered at Honiton Golf Club for the annual Past Captains Away Day.
This function is held to thank the members of the section who give their time to score the Thursday Competitions.
The competition was a modified Stableford held on a well grey day in December. The course although wet was in very good condition with fast firm greens, bunkers with sand that were playable (as I found out a few times) and fairways cut as if it was summer.
As the competition progressed so did the grey skies into becoming black as the wind and rain lashed the players.
Eventually, Captain John Williams who had arranged the function (along with Seniors Captain Chris Hockey) reduced the competition to nine holes to allow the very wet competitors to retire to the club house.
After suitable refreshments the Seniors sat down to a very fine Turkey Dinner.
The results of the day were as follows;
Christmas Hat Competition was won by Ken Jacobs.
An optional two spot competition was held with Chris Hockey the only winner. Half the proceeds went to Chris's charity Cancer Support UK
