SENIORS AND LADY CAPTAINS CHARITY DAY 2012
Thursday 12th April started with a very light frost, which quickly dispersed, to leave a beautiful sunny day for so early in the season.
This year the following three charities were supported.
- 1. Breakthrough Breast Cancer
- 2. Charlton Farm Children’s Hospice
- 3. Prostate Cancer
64 mixed pairs, played a Greensome Stableford competition , with some very competitive golf being achieved.
The Seniors Captain and Ladies Captain led the field with their respective partners, and set the pace. Observing the remaining players as they made their way around the course it was obvious that everybody seemed to be enjoying the day, even if the golf was not quite up to expectations!
Early leaders were Roger Stone and Morag Owen Burke with a score of 43 points, and as other scores came in, their score looked to be hard to beat. Mick Capps and Mary Marshall came in with a commendable 40 points, but were then overtaken by David Howell and Connie Stolworthy who had the same score but with a better back nine. It was left for the last fourball to come in, with Jeremy Evans and Sally Taylor’s equalling score of 43 points with a better back nine by one point to knock Roger and Morag off the perch.
1st Jeremy Evans and Sally Taylor 43 pts on countback
2nd Roger Stone and Morag Owen – Burke 43 pts
3rd David Howell and Connie Stolworthy 40 pts
Nearest the Pin 7th - Ruth Lloyd and Chris Gingell

During the delicious and plentiful buffet meal (thanks to George & staff), talks were given on behalf of all three Charities. A 'heads & tails' game was played and a Raffle followed the meal.
Thanks to generosity of members on the day £382.24p was raised and will be shared between the Senior and Lady Captains' charities.
Thank you all for supporting this event.
