Animals run riot at Long Sutton during the Macmillan Animals Competition.

What an incredible effort! From registration at 7.30am with Eliza, Coleen, Sandra & Valerie a massive thanks to every helper & every contributor. It was obvious from the reaction of those taking part that Macmillan & their Animals were going to be amazed! The generosity of the Long Sutton Seniors & those who sponsored & donated was extraordinary. Much humour was displayed handing in the 'fines' cards which made the day so worthwhile.
Congratulations to Mike Layzell who won the Hares Trophy for the best stableford score & to Paul Harris for only collecting one animal to win this year's 'King of the Jungle' trophy. Dave Butcher spent the most time in trees to win the rather special monkey (See pic!)
Huge thanks to Ian Davidson for handling the finance, John Packett & Ray Boulton for checking the Animals fines cards, to Norman, Gill & Sandra for setting up the computer & processing the stableford results. Also to John Nicholson for creating the fines cards, Dave Butcher & Chris Hockey for their tremendous input.
Grateful thanks to Graham & Felicity Holloway for allowing the extra facility on the course.
A big thankyou for the fantastic donation of £802.17
from Macmillan Oncology Unit, Yeovil Hospital.

A team of 8 Long Sutton Seniors took 3rd Prize in the

Minehead Inter-Club Challenge Trophy

on Monday 2nd November.

The participating players were :-  Rich Bartin; Bill Bond ; Alec Lyon ; Nigel Griffiths;  Chris Gingell;  John Williams;  Rob Ford;  Peter Hill.

The players made their individual ways with an early start through gloomy conditions to enjoy coffee and bacon baps at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club.

There were a total of 11 teams of 8 players playing a 4 ball, better ball, Stableford format with all 4 cards to count and a shotgun start. Many of the participating teams are on our Inter-Club circuit so there were many familiar faces at the gathering.

It remained dry throughout but the promised sun never broke through the heavy cloud at Minehead. The course is adjacent to the sea and to Butlins thus providing an entertaining backdrop for the competing players!  It is a flat course but has some interesting challenges.

Long Sutton fought hard in good golfing conditions with some excellent play from the team.  Ilfracombe won the trophy on countback from Saunton with 162 points thus making their average card scores 40.5!  Long Sutton came third with a very creditable 152 points thus beating many of the local notable contenders including:- Enmore Park, Taunton & Pickeridge and Oake Manor.

Congratulations to the Long Sutton Team for putting up a really strong showing and keeping Long Sutton’s name to the fore.

Peter Hill.

Sadly, camera problems at Minehead resulted in there being no official team photographs available.
