I have the great honour to be the Long Sutton Seniors' Captain for 2017 – 2018.
The Seniors at Long Sutton believe that the camaraderie that the section embodies is our greatest asset, and it would be hard to find a friendlier body of golfers. Having been a member of several golf clubs I can attest to this as a fact.
Male members of the club who have reached the age of 55 are welcome to join our Seniors section. The annual subscription is currently £5, renewable at our AGM in October. Over 150 members compete in our various competitions on Thursday mornings, details of which are posted on the notice board. We run Summer and Winter knockout competitions and there is also a friendly roll up on Tuesdays from early morning. A series of trophy competitions, in different formats, are played during the year.
In Summer there are about 35 fixtures against local clubs, on a home and away basis. These afford playing members of the section with an inexpensive way to enjoy a variety of other courses in the area. All members of the section are encouraged to participate in these friendly matches.
The section is run by a committee who give their time freely to keep the section running smoothly. You will see their faces in the ‘Rogues Gallery’ posted on our notice board. Please feel free to approach any of us if you have any concerns regarding Seniors' golf at Long Sutton.
The club enjoys an excellent reputation for its catering, and everyone will receive a warm welcome in the bar. The course is now over 25 years old, and is recognised as one of the best in the region. It provides a fair challenge for golfers of all abilities, is relatively flat, and rewards players who can plan their way round the course.
This year my Captain’s charity is the Alzheimers Society. Donations are welcomed throughout the year via my ‘Blobby’ pot. We organise other Charity events during the year.
I must express my thanks to Rod Tucker, who invited me to take over as Captain for 2017 – 2018. He is a hard act to follow.
My Vice Captain is Bill Bond. We both look forward to enjoying a successful year with the Long Sutton Seniors.
