3 Counties Reports
Away at Charminster, Saturday, 10th May
This was a stressful day all round for all sorts of reasons...Unfortunately, I could not be at Charminster as I had to go travel to St. Pierre on my own, 'over the Bridge'. All those motorways leading North! Any one who knows me would be taking bets on my ending up in Scotland not Wales! Talk about angst. Meanwhile, I had to say 'over to you' to Ray for the match. I am grateful to all the players for playing as the weather was atrocious in Dorset. (Perfectly fine in Wales!) The team did not know the course and aren't used to coping with strong, coastal winds. The wind whipped Sandra's cap away and her crystal ballmarker with it...she does not want to play there again!
Pat and John Whitehead and Sonia and Steven Banks were our only winners, the Banks bringing in a useful half, but hats off (sorry!) to the determination of the rest of the team...Ray, Franco, Nigel, the two Sandra's Steve Cousins and Angela and Dave. We lost the Reserve game and brought in 6 points to their 12.
Home v Wincanton, Saturday, 24th May
What is it about 3 Counties matches and rain? This is supposed to be summer but our match was a pretty soggy affair. Glad to say we won 3 and 2 but we lost the Reserve match...rather, Mike Scoble and I did. Having said that, Mike played some amazing golf...down in 4, the first time of playing 18, and pitching in for 4 on 16, from 60 yards out. Birdie nett eagles. Wincanton were very impressed with the state of the course, and the greens in particular.
Thank you team...Henry and Nigel, Ray and Steve Stopforth, the Uzzells, the Bakers, Sean and Sandra Basford and Mike Scoble. We had 11 points to Wincanton's 8.
