CHAIRMAN’S SPRING NEWSLETTER
The sun is shining hard down on us at the moment, but bewares the county cricket season starts next week and that usually means rain, something we all need.
Roy Parmiter starts his year off on Monday as Somerset Captain of Captains, on behalf of the club we congratulate him and wish him well in his year in office.
The winter competitions have run reasonably well but it is important that all parties adhere to the dates for these competitions to function properly.
George, Richard, Mark and Gill are all ready to lead their teams out to do battle in the Avalon and Three Counties leagues: Roger and Julie have already started their seniors and ladies fixture with mixed fortunes.
Curry Nights will continue during the summer months and Club Night starts on the 11th April, do come along and have a game with Club Captain Chris Binding who is looking forward to meeting and playing with as many of you as he can during the season.
The Avalon league captains will be posting their team selections and results on the website for all to see and support.
Richard Dore has started taking teams for St Margaret’s Hospice Charity Day so not to be disappointed I would suggest you contact him and get entered as I believe we have already received 30 teams in a very short time. To try to speed the day up we are looking for more help on the day with marshalling so anyone interested please contact myself or Richard for further information.
The Green Staff have been working hard throughout the winter months and the effects of injecting compressed air into some of the wetter greens is certainly working. Graham has been busy funding new equipment for use on the course and new purchases include a new greens mower (yet to arrive), an overseeder, another pump to keep the rain away and we will soon have some new buggies.
Talking to most golfers speed on the course is always a problem especially with visitors who are unaware of the layout of a strange course so may I appeal to you to be courteous to others at all times and please, if you are looking for a ball or it is bottling up behind you, invite people to play through.
