Thank you to those of you who turned out to play in the Drive-In on Saturday and thank you to Norman for managing to accommodate 100 people in 25 teams on only 18 holes!  Everything went well with all teams in by 3 pm tucking into hot soup and a roll.  Even the weather played its part, clearing and allowing the sun to make some much needed appearances.   Thank you also to Tommy and Graham for collecting playing fees and raffle money before play and to Roger and the kitchen staff for supplying bacon rolls before play and the soup after.   Thanks go to Fran and her troops for keeping the liquid flowing after play, stopping dehydration setting in!   The Drive-In itself was a magnificent 198 yards, slightly left into the trees, but after the way I played, that was a good shot!   Thank you to Andrew for measuring the Drive after he had managed to find the ball!  The winners on the day were Chris Blackwell, Nick Blackwell, Nick Dean and Pete Tilley with a score of 57.7, well done.   The Captains Charity raised approximately £150 on the day, but please do not forget the charity bottle on the bar for those visits to the water hazards!

Once again thank you to all the players and everybody who helped me on the day to make it a success.

Magnificent Effort ~ Our Scratch Team

Magnificent Effort

Yesterday the team of George Ceely, Rob Parks, Paul Wills, Gary French and Henry Edwards took on the might of Taunton & Pickeridge in the final of the Pickeridge Bowl, the counties première Scratch KO final at Enmore.

The games were all close throughout with shots being exchanged. First past the post was Paul who won one up, followed next by Henry who produced a really great half against plus 3 county golfer Tom Sloman, next up came Gary French who beat Pickeridge Captain Chris Nicholls 4 and 3, all now depended on Rob and George getting a half from one of their matches, again tight games but both lost meaning George and County Player Rob Parker would have to play extra holes to see which team would win. On the first extra hole both players got par, so off to the next where despite a valiant effort from George, his putt looking in all the way only to roll round  the hole more in than out but finally out, Rob was left with a tap in  ~ to win.

Well done lads you certainly did the club and me proud yesterday.

(Neil Mossman comment last evening at 11.30 was I certainly must take my hat off to your lads what an effort.)

On Sunday 8th September our five man scratch team went to Taunton and Pickeridge to contest the semi final of the Pickeridge Bowl against Bath Golf Club.    The team of Henry Edwards, Roger Hird, George Ceely (Captain), Paul Wills and Rob Parks handled themselves so well on a course set up in great conditions, fast greens and challenging pin positions.    Roger and Rob did not have the best of days. Paul won 6 and 5 playing some great golf, George had the round of his life 6 under par though 9 holes including an albatross, 2 on the par 5 ninth hole, his game finishing on the 13th winning 7 and 5.   So ….. it all hinged on the first game with Henry, 1 down most of the way he handled himself brilliantly to turn the match round and win 2 and 1.

So now to the final against Taunton and Pickeridge, support would be much appreciated – we will let you know the date and venue.

Well done team.

Gourmet Evening - superb!!

2013 1st Gourmet Evening Wow! What a superb meal prepared by George and his team. Each course was not only delicious but was also presented so beautifully. The ravioli was exquisite – better than my favourite restaurant in Italy! The salad nicoise was also reported as wonderful. Whether the choice was the 3 Way Pork or the Venison or the Dover Sole the taste was fantastic. Puds were a really tough one with both looking and tasting truly scrumptious! What a shame so few shared such a wonderful gourmet evening. I am waiting with taste buds salivating for the next one! Cheers Sandra
