It has been a busy week for the Ladies Section with two Interclub League matches and one friendly being played over the previous week.
On Thursday 30th May, 7 ladies played in an Interclub match at Taunton & Pickeridge GC. The conditions were very good although the rough, just off the fairway, was extremely tough to get out of. Special mentions must go to Christine Turner, who won her match playing in her first Interclub fixture, to Sandra Ford, who was a convincing 5/4 winner and to Mary Marshall, who stepped in at the last minute to cover for the injured Ros Williams. T & P is always a very tricky course, so gaining two away points was indeed a welcome bonus. We were entertained with a bi-plane display practising for the forthcoming Corfe Summer fete, prior to tea, which was extremely enjoyable, despite a slight problem with the gas supply. Team: Sarah Uzzell, Caroline Hunter, Sandra Ford, Pat Whitehead, Christine Turner, Mary Marshall and Aideen Roche.
Another day and another match, this time at home, in a friendly against Oake Manor GC on Friday 1st June. Some close and enjoyable matches, despite testing conditions, including Sylvie Coache-Tucker and Caroline Lumley-Frank coming back from 5 down to halve their match; the overall result being a 3 – 2 win for the Long Sutton Ladies. Well done also to Judith Bailey as this was her first competitive match for the Long Sutton Ladies, with hopefully, many more to follow. Team: Valerie Thomas, Judith Bailey, Gwen Clarke, Sandra Basford, Christine Turner, Chris Coates, Caroline Lumley-Frank, Sylvie Coache-Tucker, Aideen Roche and Jennie Ridewood.
On Monday 3rd June the Ladies were at home again, this time in an Interclub match v Bath GC. After some very close matches, with 4 being decided on the 18th hole, the Long Sutton Ladies secured an honourable draw with 3 1/2 points each. Special mention to Carole Lancaster and Katharine Stringer for volunteering for and winning, their first Interclub matches. Team: Carole Paterson, Hilary Dennes, Aideen Roche, Sylvie Coache-Tucker, Judy Richards, Carole Lancaster and Katharine Stringer.
