Lady Captain 2018 – 2019
It is my great privilege as the Lady Captain, and on behalf of the lady members, to offer you a warm welcome to Long Sutton Golf Club. I believe our course is both challenging and rewarding, a view shared by many returning visitors and teams alike.
I have been a full member here at Long Sutton since November 2010 and started playing golf properly around ten years ago, whilst serving abroad in South Africa with the Royal Navy, so I’m still a relative novice. This year is one of transition in many ways. I welcome the new members of my Committee and thank those who, after many years of service and experience, are stepping down but I know that their advice, along with the previous Past Captains and members will be invaluable to me going forward.
Long Sutton Golf Club has an enthusiastic ladies’ section that welcomes all levels of golfers, from complete beginners to the more accomplished players. We have a very full golfing diary ahead, including Inter-League matches, Friendlies (both Ladies and Mixed), Tri matches, 3 Counties matches as well as a varied competition diary open to all lady members, currently numbering 79. Our ladies’ morning is Wednesdays but the main programme is replicated for our working ladies on Sundays. The aim of the ladies’ section and a key objective for my year, is to provide every opportunity for all members to not only enjoy their golf but also find friendship and support by playing this wonderful game.
Turning to my Charity, I have given it much thought and believe it is important to support a local organisation and one that means something to the members here. Whilst playing on the golf course one Sunday morning a few years ago there was an emergency which required urgent attention. This came in the form of a helicopter who whisked the patient off to hospital, vital to get attention in that first critical hour. My Charity this year is The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, they receive no funding from the Government or National lottery and rely on the generosity of the public for support.
I would like to thank Mandy Head who has done a sterling job as Captain this past year and to Denise Tomblin, my Vice-Captain, who I will work closely with continuing to raise the profile of the ladies section at this club. I very much look forward to the challenges that 2019 will bring with all the new changes that entails and to a successful year for Long Sutton Golf Club.
I personally look forward to playing with as many members as I can during my year as Captain and hope you all have an enjoyable and successful golfing year in 2019.
