Lady Captain 2019/20 - Denise Tomblin
On behalf of the lady members I would like to warmly welcome you to Long Sutton Golf Club.
Our course provides an excellent challenge and exciting golfing experience for all and the clubhouse is a place to relax with our friendly staff looking after you.
I joined Long Sutton Golf Club four years ago after moving to Somerset for work and have enjoyed becoming involved in the Ladies Section over the last couple of years. I have been playing golf for sixteen years, am passionate about the game and enjoy the fun and friendship within all sections of the club.
The Ladies Section is a very well supported with over 80 members and about half that number playing regularly at ladies morning on Wednesday each week. We welcome all levels of golfers, from complete beginners to the more experienced players. We have a full calendar of events throughout the year including competitions for trophies, medals, stablefords, the Solheim Cup and fun competitions. Qualifying competitions for working ladies are run on Sundays during the season April to October and the majority of the club competitions at weekends are open to ladies.
The Ladies Section hold a Mixed Open and Ladies Open each year and we would be delighted to welcome you to Long Sutton to join in these events.
Richard, our Director of Golf, is always on hand to help and advise on aspects of your game. Group and individual coaching sessions are available throughout the year; we often arrange ladies group coaching sessions in advance of the summer competition season.
The Ladies Committee are responsible for management of the Ladies Section and I am very grateful to all the ladies serving on the Committee for the time they devote to this. I would like to thank Sarah Uzzell who has done a wonderful job as Captain this past year and Jo Cook, my Vice-Captain, who I will work closely with continuing to raise the profile of the Ladies Section at the club.
Turning to my Charity, in recent years my life has been hugely affected by dementia and I know many others who are experiencing similar challenges. I will be supporting the Alzheimers Society this year with donations helping to both progress the understanding of this disease and also to fund the regional office that works with families in the local community.
I am truly honoured to be Lady Captain at such an exciting time for Long Sutton Golf Club, following the change of ownership in August 2019, and I look forward to the challenges and fun that 2020 will bring.
I wish you a happy and successful golfing year.
