After our stunning success of the two match wins last week, this week, when we played our away match at Lyme Regis on 24th May, I was looking for three in a row. We came close, very close! I selected a strong team and as usual I selected a top golfer as my partner. Richard Bartin did his level best to carry me around a golf course that must have one of the best back drops of any golf course in the country, but on the day, it was mission impossible. It went to the last put on the 18th, which LR captain Paul and his partner John both missed and we didn't. We had snatched a half. In match 2, past seniors' captain Colin and Dave Kennedy also came close, but lost 2 and 1. The result of Match 3 was another close one, which this time it went our way with Jon Searl and Mike Poole securing a win, also 2 and 1. Then in match 4 and playing in his lucky light green shorts, John Jeanes was on winning form again and he and Tim Forward had a solid win by 3 and 2. Overall, after 4 matches, we were now 2 and a half to 1 and a half, looking good. Match 5 was yet another close one but Franco and Al Webber went down by another 2 and 1 result, leaving the overall result hanging in the balance. But the scales tipped in favour of Lyme Regis and with Dave Manning & Mike Bowling loosing 4 and 3 in match 6, the home team just took it by 3½ to 2½. Despite the result, the good company, good weather & a good golf course made it a very enjoyable day. Oh yes and the post match food was very pretty!
