Report by Rachel Ewbank. Mixed match Captain.
Twelve happy golfers set out from a sun baked Long Sutton. In shirt-sleeve attire all teeing off from 1pm. A dark splodge over Portland Bill to the East did not worry us as the weather comes from the West.
However, between our fifth and ninth holes the dark splodge had blackened the whole sky, decanting upon us vast quantities of hail and torrential rain. This had no intention of relenting and “Match Abandoned” was the only course of action. Needless to say conditions in our steaming cars could have grown wonderful orchids!
The catering staff were able to bring the meal forward while large quantities of fuel from the bar were easily downed.
Special thanks go to Christine, Joe, Clive and Connie, who graciously made up our team of six couples, even though their opposition never materialised! They fortunately went off first and so played more holes than the rest of the team, which consisted of Angela and Dave, Mary and Tim, Valerie and Rod and Rachel and Robin.
We returned to a sun-baked Long Sutton, where our thirsty gardens had not seen one drop of our precious rain !!
