76 players entered the LS Mixed Open on Sunday 10th June 2019 from as far afield as Lancashire and Lichfield with the format being a 4BBB Stableford off 90% handicap. The weather stayed fine although at one stage it looked very bleak for those playing later on in the day. The course was in excellent condition, but despite that, the scores were not as high as one would have predicted with the eventual overall winners, Sharron and Iain McVie from Sherborne GC, scoring 41 points. On completion, Andy and his team produced an excellent meal in the form of a carvery. Nearest the pins were won by Steve Potts and Annie Patten (visitors) and home players Frank Penny and Denise Tomblin. Out of a large field there were only 2 two’s, with Tim Marshall and Frank Penny going away with a large quantity of golf balls between them.
Sarah thanked Paul Wills (starter), Caroline Lumley-Frank and John Paterson (biscuits), Eileen Arundell, Chris Coates, Hilary Dennes and Jennie Ridewood (set up and registration) and Andrew Hayes (prizes). However, Sarah saved the most praise for Carole Paterson for all hard work, especially her drive and determination to ensure that a full field was achieved on the day. Proactively contacting individuals to sign up for this extremely enjoyable event, starting this planning and organisation way back in January. Also, for organising the team of helpers and generally running things on the day.
