On Wednesday 17th July 46 ladies all dressed up “In the Pink” for our annual Pink Lady Day, in aid of “Breast Cancer Now”. The weather was as gorgeous as the sight of the ladies playing their pink ball up the first. The competition was a 4BBB Bowmaker with 2 scores to count, with the pink ball doubling up where necessary. Gwen Clarke was the starter and chief helper for the day and she really played the part as the “best dressed non playing lady”, suitably attired head to toe in pink! Tea, coffee and pink cake was our reward, but what cakes! Tristan, produced a trio of amazing and delicious pink macaroons, muffins, and raspberry and chocolate desserts for each table. The ladies applauded such marvel and needless to say there were not many left over when the ladies departed. On the first tee, Hilary Dennes had mentioned to the Lady Captain that she was looking a little “tacky” in her pink attire, which was of course, a fineable offence. All the groups came back in, not all with the pink ball, with tales of incidents and mishaps and these were fined appropriately (or not) by the Lady Captain.
The eventual results were incredibly tight with three teams tying on 115 points and the team in fourth just one point behind.
1st - Sheena Smith, Sylvie Coache-Tucker, Katharine Stringer, Caroline Lumley-Frank
2nd - Mandy Head, Ann McRae, Sue Clifford, Anne Simpson
3rd - Jo Cook, Sally Taylor, Carole Lancaster, Chris Coates
Best Dressed Pink Lady - Carole Lancaster
Thank you to all those who donated to the raffle and bought raffle tickets. Kind donations and the fines were added to the entry money and raffle which meant that £350 was raised on the day for this fantastic charity. Thank you also to Mary Marshall, for obtaining the poster and literature from “Brest Cancer Now” and to everyone for entering into the spirit of things and making it such an enjoyable day.
