SENIORS DRAW AWAY TO MINEHEAD
On Thursday 23rd February 2017 Long Sutton Seniors, under the Captaincy
of Rod Tucker, played against Minehead away.
With Minehead in the grip of Hurricane DORIS and 75 mph winds the Minehead ladies match was postponed because of the weather but our intrepid Seniors went out to do battle with the elements.
1st Team out was match Captain Rod Tucker (9) and Peter Hill(18) against Minehead Captain Graham Walsh (21) and partner John Coomber (17), John drove the green on the first for birdie and then parred the 2nd to go two up. When we got to the turn we had rallied and were 2 up and when we walked onto the 16th Tee we had a 3 shot lead. We then lost 16 and 17 as the weather was horrendous with the added problem of sand being blown directly into our faces, we battled on and parred the last hole to win our match by 1 hole, a great game played in the right spirit.
The 2nd Team was Mike Poole (12) and Bill Bond (20) ( the Somerset Seniors Champion), who was signing autographs and taking selfies till late in the afternoon, but they had a great win 2&1 well done .
The 3rd Team was Phill Bowdich(8) and Franco Calandrini (19) who played against Trevor Stephens(21) and Sandy Lyons (14) but sadly lost to the Minehead pair.
The 4th Team was John R Paterson (13) and Gavin Baker(18) Captains Bankers for the day, a team built for the conditions and had a great win against Stephen Kaye(17) and Tim Evans(16) so well done to you both.
The 5th Team was John Jeanes(20) and John Whithead(16) who played against astrong Minehead pair of Nick Powles(18) and Andy Dahl(14) but they lost 3 and 1 thank you both for playing.
The 6th team was Glyn Ottery(13) and Stewart Thomson(20) who gave it a good go but lost 4 &3 better luck next time.
The Final score was Minehead 3 long Sutton 3
Thank you all for playing
