It's truly an honour for me to represent Long Sutton Golf Club as Seniors Captain for 2018/19.
From the moment I joined the club 5 years ago I can honestly say that the camaraderie and friendship, sharing a passion for golf and most of all having fun, makes this club 'special'. It would be hard to find a more welcoming and inclusive environment in which to enjoy yourself on or off the course. The club enjoys a reputation for its catering which includes increasingly popular theme evenings and entertainment.
The Long Sutton course is recognised as one of the best in the region and provides a fair challenge for golfers of all abilities and ages. The relatively flat and undulating parkland layout rewards players who can plan their way round the course.
If you have reached the age of 55 you will be warmly invited to join our Seniors section and pay an annual subscription of just £5, renewable at our AGM in October. The section has over 150 members who are encouraged to enjoy participating in a varied programme of competitions mainly taking place on Thursday mornings. There is also a popular friendly roll up on Tuesdays from early morning.
However, if you just prefer casual golf or perhaps still have work or family commitments, you will be guaranteed an enjoyable experience.
The Seniors Section Handbook provides a comprehensive guide to all that the club and section has to offer.
Throughout the golfing season the seniors play friendly matches against 17 clubs, home and away. The 4 ball match play format is hugely popular and enables players of all abilities to enjoy being part of a team. Again the emphasis is on having fun whilst representing Long Sutton GC Seniors in these competitive albeit friendly fixtures. An added incentive to participate is the opportunity to enjoy playing some excellent and diverse courses throughout the South-West region for as little as £14 including a meal. I strongly recommend all members of the section to get involved and I can guarantee you will really enjoy the experience. More on this during my year.
The section is run by a committee who give their time freely to keep the section running smoothly on behalf of members. You will see their faces in the ‘Rogues Gallery’ posted on our notice board and feel free to approach any of us if you have any concerns regarding Seniors' golf at Long Sutton.
This year my Captain’s charity is Somerset Mind. Donations are welcomed throughout the year at Charity events and via my ‘Blobby’ pot which is always on hand to collect 'fines' for on course mishaps.
I would like to extend my grateful thanks to Jon Searl, who invited me to take over as Captain for 2018/19 and who set a great example for me to follow.
My Vice Captain is Len Collin and we both look forward to a successful year serving the section and helping members of Long Sutton Seniors to enjoy the experience.
