Seniors start the season with a draw at Orchardleigh

Seniors Reports and News : Seniors start the season with a draw at Orchardleigh

On a glorious sunny spring day the LSGC seniors started their new Inter-Club campaign with a creditable draw at Orchardleigh. Always a difficult fixture against strong opponents there were some stand out performers on the day with the 'dream team' of Franco Callandrini and (new recruit) Clive Haggett taking the plaudits with a convincing 5&3 victory to secure a share of the spoils.

Vice Captain Len and partner Tim Forward (peaking at the right time) proved a potent partnership winning 2&1. Brian Hunter on his debut playing with the experienced powerhouse Graham Brimble narrowly missed out 2&1 after a close fought nip and tuck encounter. Our 2017 Captain Rod ‘Mr Reliable’ Tucker calmly encouraged Captain Bill to ‘just relax’ and the pair almost sleep walked through to a well fought and friendly half.

Dave ‘lumberjack’ Butcher plotted a course through the trees and undergrowth in his noisy gas powered tractor (sorry buggy) whilst playing partner Glynn preferred to stay out of trouble with his shiny new Mizuno clubs. Despite only brief meetings on the greens the match ended all square.

Bob Smith and playing partner David Harfield were up against a formidable home duo and despite playing well went down 5&3 which was a bit harsh!

Well done team for all contributing to a well earned result to kick off the new season. No April fools on this day!!
