This is the type of message that makes me extremely proud to be a Long Sutton Member and Captain.
Last weekend we had 2 great successes and a hole in one!
Firstly Jamie Brodie's Avalon Team visited top of division 1 side Stockwood Vale. Having lost at home to them 3-2 this fixture was critical in how we would fair at the end of the season. Known for being notorisously difficult as a venue and a great home advantage the odds were heavily in their favour it's fair to say. However there must have been something in the air, the team performed fantastically well claiming wins in matches 2,3,4 and 5 to win 4-1 and avenge the defeat at home.
Next up a visit to the Isle of Wedmore for the Somerset Bowl team against Cricket St Thomas - a local darby match with many players in our team being members at Cricket at somepoint in time.
We knew this would be tough, we took a very strong team with low handicaps so we were all giving away shots.
We won Match 1 at the first extra hole Andrew Isaacs and Wesley Allen grinding out a win giving away lots of shots, Match 2 won 3 & 2 Pete Burch and Lewis Greenwood King recovering from a slow start, Match 3 was 4 up with 4 to play but ended up on the 18th and won 2 up, Norman Banfield and I hanging on, so 3 matches to the good and on we march!! Match 4 unfortunatley lost 3 & 2, finally Match 5 was having a ding dong battle with an ex Long Sutton member, the result not needed, we graciously offered a half on 17 that was declined, Gary French proceeded to chip in from 50 yards out to win 17 and Stuart Hodder hit the green on 18 to close the match out 2 up. Another 4-1 win! Next up Oake Manor in a few weeks time.
Lastly but by no means least a huge congratulations to Darren Walker for his Ace at the 17th on Sunday in the Kingston Manor Trophy, if only you'd saved it for charity day - well done Darren!
